Mental health & substance abuse workshop
The PAPSE project (Pillars & Plants: Prevention, Support & Empowerment program for young people) which is hosted by the Africa University Clinical Research Centre (AUCRC), conducted a workshop on Mental health & substance abuse with AU student leaders and influencers on Saturday, the 7th of March 2020.
In addition to elevating awareness on Mental Health, Drug and Substance Abuse issues, the PAPSE project aims to expand the delivery of psychosocial support, HIV self-testing and strengthening peer networks at Africa University, Nyadire Teachers College and the United Methodist Youth Fellowship groups to facilitate mobilization of youths to take up Mental health and HIV testing services. The project is funded by the UMC Global Health Unit through SPSARV, which is a substance abuse support mechanism.
Trained Peer educators vibrantly facilitated the workshop as they shared information with their peers, encouraging and empowering them to become the drivers of change to save our endangered youthful population. The theme the youths ran with was, “We have had enough of drug abuse affecting young people”.
