Making Sense of TB Data (MSTB)
Background
A notable gap in the National Tuberculosis Program (NTP) is lack of coordination on how TB data are collected, analyzed and used to improve quality of TB patient care and strengthen TB control. In other words, better coordination is needed to make better sense of TB data in the country. This project seeks to capacitate the NTP to make sense of TB data at local level and develop dashboards (WHO, 2018a) for key TB epidemiological and data quality indicators to support data monitoring at national, provincial and district level with the overarching aim to strengthen evidence-based decision making for TB control.
Specifically, this project aims to facilitate the updating of the existing NTP training materials and produce a template for data verification, cascade, trend and comparative data analysis. The same template will be useful for facilitating quarterly data analysis review meetings at facility level, conducting quarterly data quality performance review meetings and conducting on-site routine data quality assessments on a quarterly basis.
The project envisages to significantly improve coordination of TB data collection and analysis, with a clear TB service cascade preferably in dashboard format. Ultimately, this activity will enable the NTP to make better sense of TB data in the country. Through this activity, the NTP will be capacitated to provide tools for evidence-based decision making for TB control.
