Trainsmart

Background

The National Tuberculosis Programme (NTP) identified the need to adapt and adopt TrainSMART to improve data tracking on TB training programs thereby allowing better program evaluation and reporting to stakeholders. Through this project, the NTP seeks to obtain a list of facilities with TrainSMART, learn about experiences by users in the HIV programme, develop a roll out plan and launch TrainSMART for NTP purposes in five provinces that are already using TrainSMART in the HIV programme.

TrainSMART will allow the NTP to accurately track data on TB training programs in Zimbabwe, particularly data on trainers and trainees. Resultantly, widespread use of TrainSMART will allow better evaluation of TB training programs and staff management by stakeholders. For example, NTP managers will be able to design and generate automated reports on training coverage and needs from the data. Being an affordable web-based data collection system, TrainSMART is suitable for resource-limited settings. TrainSMART has the potential to improve NTP’s capacity to achieve set goals including reducing geographic and gender training disparities that may be existing currently.

Activities

  1. Develop TrainSMART rollout plan and procure technology needed to run TrainSMART at NTP/MoH.
  2. Engage and orient TrainSMART Champions in five provinces already using it.
  3. Sensitize 80 people (2 from each of 40 districts) in entering TB training data into TrainSMART.
  4. Monitor TB Training and Use of TrainSMART Database.
